New Delhi : A grateful nation pays tribute to country’s great martyrs, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their 81st martyrdom day today. It was on this day in 1931 they were hanged by the colonial rulers of the day in Lahore central jail in a conspiracy case. Their bodies were cremated on the banks of river Sutlej in Ferozepur district on the same night without informing their relatives. Now this place is near Indo-Pak border at Hussaini wala.

A function is being organised this morning on the Hussaini wala memorial (samadhis of martyrs) in Ferozepur district. Indian railway will run six special up and down trains between memorial and Ferozepur city to facilitate people to pay tributes to the great martyrs.

In the afternoon a function will be organised at Khatkar Kalan, ancestral village of Bhagat Singh in Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawan Shahir) of Punjab.
