    Published on August 17, 2012

The nation is paying rich tributes to Indian revolutionary Madan Lal Dhingra who was hanged on this day in 1909 for assasinating Sir William Wyllie in England. Wyllie was a political aide-de-camp to the Secretary of State to India.

This courageous act of Dhingra is hailed as one of the first acts of revolution in the Indian Independence Movement in the 20th century. Punjab is organising a state level function in Amritsar to pay tributes to him on his martyrdom day.

Madan Lal Dhingra was born in 1883 in Amritsar. While studying in England, this son of the soil assasinated the British officer to take revenge of the execution of some of the Indian freedom fighters. Former Health Minister, Punjab, Prof. Laxmi Kanta Chawla has appealed to all educational institutions of the state to make their students aware about Madan Lal Dhingra’s martyrdom and pay tributes to him.
