Gurgaon: It is not every day that doctors shed their medical coat, leave aside their diagnostic instruments, and step out of OPDs and operation theaters to Doctors-day-celebration_Parparticipate in a cultural extravaganza of songs and dance. However, when this happens, it’s worth sitting up and taking note!

They strive to save lives and struggle to provide well-being and better health to society. In many ways, doctors are like soldiers endeavoring to protect the people from the daily perils of disease and ill-health. Celebrating the role played by medical practitioners in improving the health of the society, doctors and staff members at the multi specialty Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, came together to participate in a special program organized by the hospital, on  Doctor’s Day to motivate and thank the doctors for their jobs and duties.

Through a series of cultural programs, staff members, nurses highlighted the lives of doctors, the effort they invest in serving humanity and the challenges they face in everyday circumstances. Organized in the auditorium of Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, the event started with lamp lightening ceremony by          Dr. Dharminder Nagar, MD, Paras Healthcare, Gurgaon; Dr Kapil Garg, Head Strategy& Business Intelligence, Paras Hospitals and Dr. Kousar Ali Shah, Zonal Director, Paras Hospitals.

National Doctors’ Day is not just a time to celebrate the medical contributions of doctors but it is also a poignant moment to recognize the sacrifices and efforts doctors make in fulfilling their daily responsibilities.During the event, videos created by the patients expressing their gratitude towards the hospital and its doctors were also relayed.

“Doctors perform one of the most thankless jobs across the globe and especially in our country which has a skewed doctor patient ratio and multiple health challenges.  Though they provide one of the most essential and humane services, that is, taking care of the well being of mankind, yet we find not very many people turning to the doctors to thank them for their services as a routine in our day to day life. Doctors’ Day gives us the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work, stress and efforts made by doctors in ensuring a healthier nation. At Paras Hospitals, we celebrate this day every year to motivate and encourage our doctors to keep up the good work as they play a very important role in society and its well being,” said Dr Dharminder Nagar, MD, Paras Healthcare.

The most interesting part of the cultural program was conducted by the nurses and staff members of the hospital’s blood bank who performed an act representing the story of doctors and their lives. The act provided an inside account and human look into the life of a doctor.

The celebration was later followed by cocktail and dinner from 8 pm onwards at Mapple.

“Undoubtedly the event was fantastic and fun. It was the day when we, the doctors, stepped aside from our regular roles for a change, and displayed our lighter sides which helped us great deal to de-stress ourselves. The videos shared by our patients were truly overwhelming as they not only reminded us of the trust people have in us, but also gave us a subtle hint of the power bestowed on us as a doctor,” said, Dr. Dr. Kousar Ali Shah, Zonal Director, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon.

“We celebrate Doctor’s Day every year at Paras Hospital, because that’s a small gesture from our side to thank our doctors, our real heroes. Each year we organize different kinds of fun and activities that involve equal participation of the doctors, nurses and other staff. It is our way to thank our doctors for extending their constant support to help the hospital serve the humanity. Such events also help the doctors to destress and mingle with each other informally,” said HR Team, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon.

In India, National Doctor’s day is celebrated on July 1, on the birth anniversary of eminent physician Dr B C Roy, who was the second chief minister of West Bengal. A Bharat Ratna-awardee, Dr Roy was also a renowned freedom fighter. Co-incidentally, he died on the same date as of his birth, that is, July 1. The day is celebrated to educate people about the roles, importance and responsibilities of the doctors. Simultaneously the day also serves to inspire and encourage the medical professionals to come closer in performing their responsibilities.
