Orbis’s goal has always been to eliminate avoidable blindness through its partnerships with local teams, partner hospitals and other like-minded non-profits. With the changing times, Orbis felt that much can be accomplished through these collaborations this year. Patient and staff safety is primary and being able to deliver eye care services, eye health professionals need to ensure safety at various levels, especially during such a time. So, we thought of creating these guidelines with the help of experts in healthcare in our partner network and beyond. I believe the guidelines will be resourceful for not just our partner network but for any eye hospital or clinic and their outreach initiatives within the country.”

Dr. BK Rana, CEO, QAI explained, “This document aims to provide hospitals with the latest guidelines that reflect existing government guidelines as well as the ones charted out by international healthcare organizations such as WHO and CDC. There is a lot of hard work put in by QAI, Orbis and the partner hospitals. It gives me great joy to see the document in its current form today. I thank everyone present for witnessing the launch of a key resource relevant to healthcare providers and hope it enriches our experience in dealing with COVID-19 for now and enable healthcare facilities to implement measures for infection control in the future.”

The Orbis-QAI guidelines are relevant to the current situation and aim to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in healthcare setups with special focus on eye hospitals. However, the scope of the document is much larger and it can aid hospitals to take preventive measures towards cluster infections among other patient and staff safety measures.
