  • Over 70 feared killed as boat capsizes in Assam’s river Brahmaputra

    Assam : In Assam, over seventy people are feared dead after a boat capsized in the River Brahmaputra at Burha-Burhi Char in Dhubri district this evening. Unconfirmed reports say 100 people are feared killed and 35 bodies have been recovered so far. Officials confirmed recovery of 14 bodies. Our Guwahati correspondent reports that the boat capsized on its way from Dhubri to Madartari Ghat.

    The incident occured due to heavy storm in the midst of the river. Army, BSF, National Disaster Response Force have joined the administration and the local people in the rescue operation. Several people have reportedly survived after swimming to the shore.
