  • Pirates hijack oil tanker with 24 Indian crew off Gabon coast

    An Oil Chemical tanker with 24 Indian crew members on board has been hijacked by suspected pirates off the coast of West African nation of Gabon. The Turkish-owned, Maltese-flagged tanker, MV Cotton was awaiting berthing in the Gulf of Guinea at the time of the hijack.

    A statement issued by the V Ships, the crew manager for the vessel said that MV Cotton was taken over by suspected pirates 15 miles off the Gentil Port between in early hours of Monday.

    Details of the whether a ransom has been demanded are unknown. The Turkish owners of the company, V Ships said that safety of the crew is the topmost priority and they are making all efforts to secure their safe return.

    They have also stated that the Turkish Government along with the Navy and concerned agencies have been informed about the incident. Reports say, the Turkish ambassador in Gabon has contacted authorities in Gabon about the incident.
