  • Prez Patil confers Padma Awards

    New Delhi : President Pratibha Devi Sigh Patil on Thursday conferred the country’s highest civilian honour, Padma Awards to eminent persons in different field of activities. Music Maestro Bhupendra Kumar Hazarika was conferred Padma Vibhusan posthumously.

    Retired IPS officer T.V Rajeshwar and renowned orthopedic surgeon Kantilal Hastimal Sancheti are the other two Padma Vibhusan winners. The 15 Padma Bhusan awardees includes renowned oncologist Suresh Hariram Advani, film maker Mira Nair, Contemporary Artist Jatin Das, Retd. IFS Officer Ronen Sen and Vocalist in Carnatic and Hindustani music, Dr. T.V Gopalakrishnan.

    Padma Shri awardees also include, eminent Bhajan and Ghazal exponent of India, Anup Jalota, Film maker Soman Nair Priyadarshan, Badminton coach S.M Arif, distinguished photographer, researcher Pepitha Seth and Homeopath Dr. Mukhesh Batra.
