  • Ramkrishna Mission chief Swami Aksharananda passes away

    Principal of Ramakrishna Mission in Dhaka Swami Aksharananda passed away in Dhaka on Monday following prolonged illness. Born at Khurda village of Satkhira district in 1929, Swami Aksharananda joined Ramkrishna Mission in Narendrapur, Kolkata in 1950. He later came to Bangladesh in 1972 and became the Principal of Dhaka Ramakrishna Mission in 1974 and has served in this position for the last 37 years.

    Under his able leadership Ramakrishna Mission has grown across Bangladesh as a spiritual as well as welfare organization. His body has been kept at the Dhaka Ramakrishna Mission premises to enable people to pay their homage, and the cremation will take place at the Rajarbag Baradeswari Kali Mandir Crematorium in the city on Tuesday afternoon.

    Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina condoled the death of Swami Aksharananda. Bangladesh State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak visited the Ramakrishna Mission and paid homage to Swami Akshrananda. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mr Rajeet Mitter also paid homage to Swami Aksharananda by placing a floral wreath.
