  • Sports to excite the necessitous in Bengal

    On 22nd February 2013, the Rotaract Club of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, organized annual sports for the students of Suryakiran, a free evening school for less privileged section of the society in The Heritage campus. Suryakiran is established by Kalyan Bharti Trust which consist of 23 philanthropists who are determined to change India into a Knowledge economy through quality education for the mass.. At present, Suryakiran consist of 225 students coming from neighbourhood villages in the areas of Chowbaga, Kalarkhal, Mundapara, Bantala, Chinamandir, Bamanghata, Goalbati, Kalikapur, Hussainpur etc who are provided with books, uniforms, evening snacks and many other facilities by the Trust.

    The annual sports day was an exciting event for the Suryakiran students where there were many exciting competitions like 25 meters and 50 meters flat race, long-jump, marble-spoon competition, shuttle run, three-legged race and many more. The event was actively organized by the Rotaract members of Heritage Institute and it was well administrated by the Sports Head, Heritage Group of Institutions, Mr. Sunil Singh, Campus Administrator of Heritage Group, Commander S.N.Dey, Ms. Archana Prusty, Coordinator, Suryakiran, faculty and staff members of Suryakiran.

    “Such events bring smile in their faces which I love to see,” said Commander Dey during the event. Other than the participants and the students, parents also enjoyed to see their child doing the best in the sports as well as some ex-students made the event cherishable in the minds of the Suryakiran students.
