Expressing strong disapproval of the alleged derogatory reference to Sikh’s holy shrine the Golden Temple during a talk show in the US, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said the matter would be taken up with that country.

Replying to questions from reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Krishna said that talk shows in US are flippant. He said that the host should be extremely sensitive to the sentiments of different religious groups not only of their own country but also of other countries. Mr. Krishna said he would ask Indian Ambassador in the US to convey India’s concern over the matter.

Obama Administration in the meantime praised the contribution of Sikh-Americans to the United States State. Talking to reporters State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland termed the controversial remarks of a popular television host on the Golden Temple as satirical in nature.

She said that US has absolute respect for all the people of India, including Sikhs. She added that President Barack Obama was the first president ever to host a celebration in honor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who’s the first Sikh guru.
