Tata Motors has filed an appeal before the Calcutta High Court challenging the single judge order of the Court which had upheld the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011. By this act, West Bengal government vested the land leased to Tata Motors at Singur for the company’s small car project. The petition is likely to be moved before a division bench of the high court after it reopens tomorrow.

Justice IP Mukerji had on September 28 held the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act 2011 to be constitutional. The court had, however, stayed the judgement till November 2 to allow any aggrieved party to file an appeal.
