  • Tata Power inaugurates Hole-in-the-Wall Learning Station at St. Mathew’s High School, Malad, Mumbai

    Mumbai : Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has always endeavored to improve the quality of education for children. In line with this, Tata Power inaugurated an initiative VIDYA, “Computer Aided Learning” (Hole-in-the-Wall – HIWEL learning station) in partnership with NIIT Foundation at St. Mathew’s High School, Malvani (Malad-West), Mumbai. Shri Aslam Shaikh, MLA, Malad West graced the inauguration ceremony and addressed the students on the importance of Computer education for their academic performance.

     The objective of this initiative is to inculcate computer literacy and develop the required soft skills amongst students which will further aid their learning in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The various courses consist of brief modules including animation and video making which helps them understand the subject better. Till date, this has been launched in 9 schools across Mumbai, where 10 computer aided learning stations have been installed. This initiative has resulted in more than 10,000 school children benefitting from it.

     Shri Aslam Shaikh, MLA, Malad West Constituency and Chief Guest for the inaugural function, in his address congratulated Tata Power for its committed efforts towards betterment of the communities. He also talked about the importance of Computer education and requested the students to utilize the HIWEL learning station and try to gain maximum knowledge.

     Mrs. Vargheese, Head Mistress concluded the event by saying that “This Computer Aided Learning initiative which caters to the school children ranging from Class KG to XIIth, received a strong response from the school children and faculty. The educators and children found the content including animation and video, very useful.”

     Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, Chief-Operations, Tata Power, said:  “There have been numerous advancements in technology and a plethora of options are available in today’s new age. It has become extremely critical for students to keep up with trends and develop the skills required to develop a better and bright future. It is a proud moment for us to aid the development of these young minds. Our initiatives support ‘Education for All’ and we are thankful to the school administration for lending their support to our initiative.”

     Mr. M Shenbagam, Head-Distribution Customer Services, and Ms. Anjali Wazir, Regional Community Relations Head, Mumbai Operations were also present on the occasion.
