    The Mechanical Engineering Department of BMS College of Engineering inaugurated the ISAMPE Bangalore Chapter-Student Wing

    Bangalore: The Bangalore Chapter of ISAMPE-Student Wing was formally inaugurated over the weekend at BMS College of Engineering campus to boost up the activities of ISAMPE, which has been in existence for nearly three decades and to bridge the two islands of academicians and industrialists.

    DSC01057The day’s programme started with a prayer and was followed by a welcome address by Madhav Murthy, Asst Professor, Department of ME, BMSCE where he welcomed all the dignitaries, faculty, staff, students and guests. This was followed by lighting of the lamp and inauguration of the ISAMPE Bangalore Chapter by Dr. Ramesh Sundaram, President, ISAMPE. Dr. Sundaram in his inaugural address emphasized the need for more collaborative work between the defence labs, academic institutes and practicing professionals. He also mentioned many success stories in the recent and past, which has happened in India.  During his speech he shared details about many of the new research areas of interest in composites like functionally graded materials, nanocomposites etc. He also suggested creating a data bank on advanced materials for sharing of knowledge.

    The event also witnessed a stimulating technical lecture on the usage of composites in the aircraft industry by the Chief Guest and Speaker of the event, Dr. Eckhard Neise, CTO, TATA Advanced Materials.

    Speaking at the event, Dr. Mallikharjuna Babu, Principal, BMSCE, said “We should focus more on the need for India becoming a super power in the manufacturing sector and the role of young students to take up the mantle and contribute to the nation’s growth.” He also urged the students to take up more technical projects and get in touch with ISAMPE for guidance and support.

    The other dignitaries present on the occasion included Dr. P Dayanand Pai, Trustee, BMSCET, Dr. Martin Jebraj, Director, R&D, BMSCE and Dr. Ravi Shankar, Dean, BMSCE. Dr. Mahendra Babu, HOD, Dept of ME, BNMIT, thanked all the dignitaries, guests, faculty and staff, students and all the people responsible for organizing and executing the event.

    The inaugural function was followed by a series of expert lectures by Dr. Martin Jebraj, Director, R&D, BMSCE and Dr.Lawrence Jenkins, Professor, IISC. Dr. Jebraj presented the state of art technology in areas of satellite and highlighted success stories of the various technological challenges to improve the efficiency of spacecraft. He stressed on the development and use of nanotechnology for optimum and reliable performance. Dr. Jenkins highlighted the uses of advanced materials like carbon nano tubes, nano glass spheres, etc in Defence’s application.

    The ISAMPE Bangalore Chapter inauguration thus concluded with yet another exciting guest lecture, paving the way to a new beginning in its ambitious quest for greater progresses in future.
