  • THE NORTHCAP UNIVERSITY, Gurgaon organizes Mini Marathon for a social cause

    In furtherance of its commitment to Raahgiri, health consciousness amongst youth, and social service for the upliftment of IMG_9905underprivileged strata of the society, THE NORTHCAP UNIVERSITY, situated at Sector 23-A Gurgaon, organized its first ever “Mini Marathon” recently at the University premises. It was a 3.2 KM run and the route was in a loop starting from the University ground and ending there. More than 300 participants ran to spread the message of remaining fit and healthy. The club encouraged young participants with the motto ‘Run a mile, bring a smile,’ that refers to bringing a smile on someone’s face by social service. The marathon was organized by Yukti, the social service club of NCU that collected more than Rs.20, 000 which they will utilize for social service.

    The marathon started early in the morning at 6:45 AM so that it does not disturb the traffic. All sprinters completely fresh and ready were present in the early morning to start the marathon. Each of them was given NCU T- shirts and badges before running. The sprinters began from the University, passed through Rezangala Chowk, main road Sector 23-A, crossed the Sector 22 market and reached back the University gate passing by the Rotary Public School. The faculty and staff of the University showcased their full support and cheer to the participants. Total 15 winners were declared from which Parvesh, scured the first position, Sumit, the second position and Saurabh,NCU student got the third position. All these three winners were given gold medals and the other 12 were awarded silver medals. Ms. Angali Garg, Department of EECE was titled best female runner faculty and Mr. Gagan Baradia, Department of Mechanical Engineering was titled the best male runner faculty.

    Saurabh, student of NCU and the third winner said, “I am very happy that our University gave us this opportunity to become of part of this marathon that was connected with a social cause. I will always be ready to participate in more such events in the future.”

    Speaking at the occasion, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of NCU, Brig SK Sharma (Retd) said, “It is a great initiative by our social service club, Yukti. It is very necessary for the development of the nation that the young generation should remain healthy. We should also not forget our responsibilities towards the downtrodden section of society.”

    The members of Yukti recently visited Tau Devi Lal Old Age Home in Gurgaon and provided basic amenities and fulfilled certain basic needs of the residents of the old age home, which has 25 physically and mentally challenged women residents. They spent time with the elderly people, making them feel wanted and cared with some recreational activities such as music and dance added. They also provided fruits, vegetables, some grocery items, tooth brushes, medicines etc. The club plans to supply items like medicines and other medical kits in their next visit.
