  • Chennai: Healthcare has emerged to be one of the most progressive service sectors in India is believed to be the next big thing after IT! The Indian healthcare sector is expected to become a US$ 280 billion by 2020 with spending on health estimated to grow 14 per cent annually.

    India has increasingly become the chosen destination for providing great medical expertise, best-in-class treatment, nursing care and priority treatment at many cases less than one-tenth the cost incurred elsewhere. Indian medical tourism market will be a boon for several associated industries, including hospital industry, medical equipments industry and pharmaceutical industry, and will stand to be the key driver for growth in the healthcare sector.

    While Indian Government is taking steps to improve the rural healthcare through private public partnership ventures and is also working towards capacity building activities, it is expected to contribute only 15-20% of the total requirement, providing an enormous opportunity for private players.

    The rebuilding of India’s healthcare infrastructure, combined with the emergence of medical tourism and telemedicine, will drive strong demand for innovations in medical technology & advancements.

    Given the background, Tamil Nadu State Council of Confederation of Indian Industry believes it is pertinent to deliberate on emerging avenues for collaborations, investments & advancements in healthcare Industry in order to facilitate the aforesaid growth.
