The company represented by Mr. Naveen Soni – Vice President, handed over the books and bags to the local school children in the presence of Mr. Gangemare Gowda, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Ramanagara, marking the commencement of the activity. Toyota’s timely interventions and focused approach has engendered a steady increase in the overall enrolment of school children amongst various Government schools at Bidadi region, and a gradual reduction in the dropout rates in such locality.

Appreciating Toyota’s initiative, Mr Gangemare Gowda, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, Ramanagara said, “Firstly, I would like to congratulate Toyota for reaffirming their commitment to future generations of Ramanagara and the community at large, year on year. Beginning of a new academic year is an exciting time and more so with the support extended to school children & their families by providing essential supplies to kids, Toyota has eased the spend pressure on their parents largely. While focus has increased on providing free and compulsory education for all, efforts like these to include the marginalized and disadvantaged access to quality education is a welcome move and I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Toyota during this occasion.”

Speaking at the event, Mr Naveen Soni, Vice President – Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Toyota looks at creating meaningful differences in the society. Today’s children are tomorrow’s nation builders. What they need is a conducive environment to learn and nurture their abilities irrespective of their background or economic status. We at Toyota firmly believe that change should begin at the grassroots levels by looking at tangible solutions be it school infrastructure, distribution of school kits or basic facilities at school [sanitation, etc] coupled with sensitising the kids on basic health & hygiene practices. Our efforts towards endorsing Education is in its 15th year now, and with this initiative, we aim to meet the academic requirements of the school going children and ensure a quality learning environment to the children.”

These programs have expanded over a period, enhancing the beneficiary coverage to around 22,000 school children this academic year, as compared to 3000 children in 2007.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor over the years has initiated several sustainable projects to accelerate access to quality education in the country. The company has reconstructed many government schools, Yandahalli & Kupya villages in Mysore District, Dyavalinganapalya and Thalaguppe villages of Ramanagara District in May 2017, benefitting over 95 students covering 1st – 5th grades. They also constructed Ashrama School at Byramangala, LPS School at Medanahalli & Ashrama School at Hosadoddi.

These projects have shown a positive impact on the school attendance ratio – with an increase from 28% to 36% in Medanahalli and 40% to 60% in Hosadoddi schools. In 2017, the company distributed 74920 notebooks, 1200 nos. of bags, drawing books & crayons and 2225 geometry boxes to over 12,500 students across 172 schools. These contributions of the company have led to a visible decrease in the school dropout rates, in Bidadi region, from 0.8% in 2012 to 0.4% in 2017. Also these programs have expanded over a period, enhancing the beneficiary coverage to more than 9,000 school children during last academic year, as compared to 3000 children in 2007 when first launched.

Under the Government’s National Campaign to provide clean sanitation facilities for girl child in India, Toyota has also pledged its support to ‘Swacch Bharat – Swacch Vidyalaya’ – by constructing sanitation units at identified schools by the Government in 3 locations across India, to help reduce school dropouts.
