  • U.S. Reviewing “Full Range of Options” to Pressure Libya: Obama

    Published on February 24, 2011

U.S. President Barack Obama said on Wednesday that his administration will review “a full range of options” to put pressure on Libya.

“I’ve also asked my administration to prepare the full range of options that we have to respond to this crisis,” Obama said in a televised speech. “This includes those actions we may take and those we will coordinate with our allies and partners or those that we’ll carry out through multilateral institutions.”

“We strongly condemn the use of violence in Libya,” he said, describing the bloodshed in Libya as “outrageous” and ” unacceptable.”

“This violence must stop,” Obama said.

He said the change that is taking place across the region is being driven by the people of the region and it represents the aspirations of people who are seeking a better life.

Obama said the United States is doing “everything” it can to protect American citizens, saying this is his “highest priority.”

He urged Americans to leave Libya, and said the U.S. State Department is assisting those in need of support.
