    Published on January 5, 2011

The U.S. special envoy to North Korea Stephen Bosworth met with South Korea’s chief nuclear negotiator Wi Sung-lac Wednesday in Seoul.

The two were expected to discuss the conditions that Pyongyang must meet before it can return to nuclear disarmament talks, such as halting its nuclear programmes and allowing international monitors back into the country.

Six way talks on North Korea’s nuclear disarmament have been stalled but Pyongyang has recently signaled a willingness to resume the discussions.

Bosworth’s trip to the region, which will also take him to China and Japan, comes ahead of a summit between U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao set for 19th of this month in Washington where North Korea is expected to be a key topic.

President Obama Tuesday met with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi who is in Washington to pave the way for Mr. Hu’s visit.
