  • UP Govt lifts ban on Student Unions in Univs & Colleges

    Uttar Pradesh : In Uttar Pradesh, the newly formed Samajwadi Party government has decided to restore the Student Unions in all Universities and Colleges. The Akhilesh Yadav government has directed all Universities and Colleges to hold student unions’ elections.

    The ban on holding student unions’ elections was slapped by the previous Mayawati government in 2007. The elections for student unions would be held in the new academic session starting from July.

    In its first Cabinet meeting, the state government also decided to provide 1000 rupees per month as unemployment allowance to all unemployed youths of 35 years of age, registered in employment offices.

    Similarly, the government has also decided to give 30 thousand rupees to every Muslim girl to carry forward her education after High School or to get married.

    The Chief Secretary of the state, Anup Mishra informed the media persons that the government has also decided to give Tablets to all 10th standard pass school students and Laptops to Intermediate pass students.

    He said, it will be applicable to all students passed from any Examination Boards including Madarsa and Sanskrit Schools. He said, about 1100 crore rupees will be required to meet out these decisions of the government.

    Samajwadi Party had promised to make available Tablets and Laptops to students and to lift ban on the student union elections in its poll manifesto.

    The Chief Secretary also informed that in order to check unauthorised encroachment on land of graveyards, the Cabinet has decided to construct boundary walls for which financial arrangements would be made in the next Budget.

    He said, for proper transport movement and security purposes, CCTV cameras would be installed at all the important crossings in the state capital Lucknow from next year.
