New Delhi ; The Allahabad High court awarded a major interim relief to all municipal corporations of Uttar Pradesh on the issue of employee’s provident fund. While hearing a petition filed by Varanasi Municipal Corporation, the high court stayed the order of Union Labour Ministry under which ministry had ordered to Municipal Corporation to deposit their share of employee’s provident fund. The interim stayed order was passed by Justice Pankaj Mittal yesterday. The court has ordered to central provident department to submit their reply within six weeks.

The union labour ministry had issued notification in January 2011 under which municipal corporations have to deposit their share for contributory provident fund. Later central provident fund department had also ordered to Municipal Corporation to deposit their contribution. The Varanasi municipal corporation challenges both the orders claiming that they are govern by state provident fund rules not by the central department.
