  • Winners of Science Quiz Competition announced

    Hyderabad : Dr. K V Rao Scientific Society announced the winners of its 8th Annual Science Quiz for the year Dr. K V Rao Scientific Society Science Quiz Finals – 2013-14 - Group Photo of our Committee Members, Quiz Master Mr. E M Bhargav with Winners, Runners and all Participants2013-14 for all the School Children of Andhra Pradesh in classes 8th to 12th. The team, Mr. D Jeevitesh and Mr. M Prabhat from Narayana IIT Olympiad School, Vijayawada emerged winners in the Science Quiz competition. While there was stiff competition for the second spot between Gitanjali Senior School, Begumpet, Hyderabad and St. Mathew’s Public School, Vijayawada schools, the team from Gitanjali Senior School, Hyderabad comprising of Mr. Siddhrth B Rao and Mr. Ketan Karnakota grabbed the runners-up place.

    The winners were given cash prize of Rs. 4000/-, a trophy and a certificate each and the runners-up were given Rs. 3000/-, a trophy and a certificate each. All the others were given prizes and merit certificates. The winners and runner-up will be presented with Dr. K V Rao Annual Science awards during the annual function of the Society to be held in the month of April 2014. The Quiz was organized by the one decade old Dr. K. V. Rao Scientific Society which has been established to preserve basic research and preserving, nurturing scientific talent in young children and youth. The objective of the quiz was to identify and nurture Scientific Talent among young students.

    The event saw a high voltage competition between the teams. The quiz was designed in such a manner as to test the overall scientific skills of the students. There were five rounds which included one based on experiments, one crossword round, a trail blazer round, regular questions round and one based on audio-video. To make the quiz more interesting and balanced Pounce and Bounce method was used.

    The quiz was held in four major cities of Andhra Pradesh, viz., Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati. Each city was part of one of the four zones, each zone being represented by specified districts of Andhra Pradesh. Top two teams from these cities and one best team which could not make it to the top two competed in the Finals held in Hyderabad recently. The final list had two teams from Hyderabad and Vijayawada and one each from Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Kakinada, Kodada, and Tirupati respectively.
