Bangalore : This World Cancer Day Manipal Hospitals Bangalore, part of Manipal Health Enterprises, took a ‘Pledge’ to raise awareness and educate the mass about the about importance of early detection and the right treatment procedures to fight this deadly disease. The event was rolled in the presence of Subbiah Arunan – Padma Shri awardee known for his role in the Mars Orbiter Mission of ISRO. He has defeated Cancer. Along with him present at occasion was Dr. H Sudarshan Ballal, Medical Director & Chairman – Medical Advisory Board, Manipal Health Enterprises and Dr Poonam Patil, HOD Medical Oncology Manipal Hospitals Bangalore.

In continuation to this year’s theme-‘Not Beyond Us’ the importance of preventive cure and timely diagnosis along with the intricacies of healthcare solutions on the continuum of cancer will be the main agenda discussed during the occasion. Manipal Hospitals Bangalore also launched the ‘Pledge Tree’ as an embodiment of promise for initiating a collective fight against cancer. This campaign will educate people on the lines of early detection of cancer which is the key to its cure. People willing to support the cause can stick ribbons pledging their fight against Cancer.

This ‘Pledge Tree’ would be put up in BIAL metro and within the hospital premises aimed at spreading the word to the general public about the causes that is responsible for the growth of the ailment and the necessary precautions that needs to be taken.

Tobacco is one of the major causes of cancer, attributing to almost 50 % of the cases in India. In our country every 90 people from 1,00,000 suffer from the deadly disease while genetic only 5% of them have genetic reasons.
