Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai today said that India is determined to reach a satisfactory conclusion over pending issues with Bangladesh. These include ratification of the land boundary agreement and an interim agreement on sharing of Teesta Water. Reacting to reporter’s questions at a joint press conference with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque at the end of the Foreign Secretary level talks in Dhaka, Mr. Mathai reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to the early conclusion of both these agreements in the shortest possible time frame. Foreign Secretary also congratulated the Bangladesh government for its initiative to try the war criminals who were involved in acts of genocide committed during the country’s liberation War in 1971 through a proper judicial process. Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque said that the two sides had discussions on the entire range of bilateral issues and finalized the agenda for the upcoming Joint Consultative Commission meeting scheduled to take place next week in Dhaka. The two Foreign Secretaries also signed a MOU for co-operation between the Foreign Service Institute of India and Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh.
