  • 10th Lamp Lighting Ceremony Held At Fortis Nursing School

    Mohali : The lamp lighting ceremony of the 10th batch of General Nursing and Midwifery students of the Fortis School of Nursing was held today at the Fortis Hospital auditorium in which students took an oath to serve the ailing humanity with utmost sincerity and resolve. The Chief Guest, Mr S C Aggarwal, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt of Punjab along with other dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp.

    As two faculty members of the school held candles in their hands in front of the portrait of the legendary Florence Nightingale, the other students appeared on the dais in twos and lit their candles, taking an oath to serve humanity with compassion and empathy.

    .This Nightingale pledge is significant in the nurses’ lives since the nursing profession was started by Florence Nightingale. She was called the ‘Lady with the Lamp’ who challenged the prejudices against the nurses and elevated the status of nursing to a respected profession.

    The students also presented a colourful variety entertainment program which included a Bhangra, a Skit, Dandia, Songs and a Fusion Dance. A school song was sung by the nursing students.

    Mr S C Aggarwal congratulated the Fortis School of Nursing for nurturing such talent, providing them with high quality teaching and also developing their personality. “Fortis is constantly going higher up the ladder of medical healthcare and this is worthy of much appreciation. Such medical institutions hold a significant place in our society for serving mankind,” he stated.

    Col. H S Chehal, Director, Fortis Hospital, Mohali talked about quality education that was being imparted to the Nursing students at Fortis and spoke about the popularity of the profession in the recent years in India as well as abroad.

    Mrs. Monir Gujral, Principal, Fortis School of Nursing, presented the school report. Mrs Girija Raina, Vice principal presented the vote of thanks.
