  • 11 year-old mentally challenged girl raped in Assam’s Chirang district

    Kokrajhar: A 11-year-old mentally challenged girl minor girl was allegedly raped by a self-styled kabiraj (quack) in a remote village under Garubhasa police outpost in Chirang district of Assam on Saturday.

    The accused has been identified as Azgar Ali from Bilasipara in Dhubri district. He is absconding.

    The accused on Saturday morning around 8.30 am visited the victim’s house for the treatment of the girl and taking advantage of finding the girl alone raped her.

    The victim’s mother said after the treatment was done, “he(Ali) gave medicines which he said is amounted Rs 1000. As I don’t have that much amount in my hand I went to collect the money in a neighborhood. When I returned I found him forcing on her, she said.

    After hearing the lady shout, the local villagers tried to catch Azgar Ali but he managed to fled from the spot.

    An FIR was lodged at Sidli police station and a medical examination was done at Kajalgaon hospital.

    The incident has sparked uproar and sensation in the area with the locals and various organizations demanded immediate arrest of the culprit and punished him to death.

    Assam Tourism Minister and local (Sidli) MLA Chandan Brahma today visited the family and took stock of the situation.
