  • 11th Home Secretary level talk between India –Bangladesh to begin in Dhaka on Wednesday

    The 11th Home Secretary level talks between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to begin in Dhaka on Wednesday. Home Secretary G.K. Pillai who will be leading the Indian delegation is reaching Dhaka tomorrow to hold discussions with the Bangladesh delegation which will be led by the country’s Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar.

    The two day talks will be focused on various issues related to bilateral security co-operation including issues related to border management and co-operation between law enforcement agencies in tackling militancy, insurgent and terrorist groups. Ahead of the Home Secretary level talks, the India- Bangladesh Joint Working Group on security will be meeting in Dhaka tomorrow to finalize the agenda for meeting.

    AIR correspondent reports that The two day Home Secretary level talks between India and Bangladesh which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday is taking place after nearly an year and will offer the two sides an opportunity to review and strengthen bilateral co-operation on Security issues. Bangladesh’s crackdown on militant and terrorist groups has helped India to nab some of the top ULFA militants.

    The two countries have very recently ratified three agreements on security co-operation which includes an agreement on combating international terrorism organised crime and illegal drug trafficking and an agreement on mutual legal assistance on criminal matters.

    The agreement will facilitate exchange of intelligence information to curb terrorist activities in both the countries. In addition to this the two countries will also work together to stop illegal drug trafficking. The meeting of home secretaries of the two countries in Dhaka and the discussions during the meeting is likely to be focused on effective implementation of these agreements.
