  • 12 hours N C Hills bandh passed off peacefully

    Haflong  : 12 Hours N C Hills Bandh from 5 AM to 5 P M of Monday passed off peacefully affecting the normal life at Haflong.


    The bandh was called by the Indigenous People’s Forum (IPF) in demand of immediate bifurcation of the Dima Hasao district with separate autonomous councils under clause (c) of the sub- paragraph (3) of paragraph 1 and sub-paragraph (1) of paragraph 2 of articles 244(2) & 275(1) of the sixth schedule to the constitution of India.

    Schools, Market, banks, offices remain closed except few government offices but with thin attendance. Vehicles were off the road; no public transport were in service for the day.

    District and police administration made an elaborate arrangement to ensure safety and security of the people and also to maintain peace in the district. Assam Riffle personals were also called in during the bandh. No untoward incident reported so far. Vehicles were checked at various points to avoid any untoward incident. Deputy Commissioner, Paul Barua, Superintendent of Police Jayant Sing along with magistrates were making rounds in and around Haflong during the Bandh.  

                
    However, Medical, water supply, Milk supply, electricity, board/University Examination (if any) were exempted from the purview of the Bandh.
