  • 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi celebrated in Dhaka

    The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated today in Dhaka. High Commission of India organised a programme in Dhaka in which renowned dancer and choreographer, ICCR scholar Sharmila Banerjee presented a dance drama on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

    Students from a number of schools of Bangladesh participated in the event. Education Minister of Bangladesh Dipu Moni was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion she said that Gandhi’s vision of life could be an effective way to combat environmental issues facing the world today.

    A novel feature of the program was the active participation of the school students in the day’s program. The students spoke on various themes like Gandhiji and non-violence, his views on cleanliness and other topics.

    High commissioner of India to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das presented a book Vaishnav Jan to Tene Kahiye to the renowned singer Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya on the occasion.

    In her address, the High Commissioner recalled the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and his continued relevance for the world. She said that the High Commission of India organised a number of programmes in Bangladesh to celebrate the 150th year of Gandhiji’s birth.
