  • 57.33% polling recorded on 14 seats of fifth phase in UP

    In Uttar Pradesh, polling on 14 seats of fifth phase competed peacefully. Overall 57.33 per cent polling was recorded which was one per cent less than the polling in 2014.

    Our correspondent reports that Barring some incidents of glitches in EVM overall polling was peaceful in the fifth phase. Heavy security arrangements were in place on more than 28 thousand polling booths.

    In the morning there were long queues at polling booths but as the day progressed and the temperature rose, the lines became shorter. First-time voters were very enthusiastic to cast their votes.

    Many high profile leaders also cast their vote including BSP Chief Mayawati, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Kalraj Mishra, Dinesh Sharma, Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

    Today’s polling will decide the fate of many political stalwarts like Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Soniya Gandhi, Union Minister Smriti Irani and Former Union Minister Jitin Prasad.
