    Published on May 28, 2017

To improve road connectivity in Ladakh region of the Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, seven major roads projects under Sadak Yojanathe Centrally-sponsored scheme – Central Road Fund – have been implemented in the last two years.

Five road projects were implemented to connect the remote and difficult terrain villages of Leh district. More than 25 percent of work on these roads has been completed so far. Two more road projects were sanctioned this year and are under tendering process.

In 2017, Union Ministry of Road and Highways sanctioned seventy road projects for Jammu and Kashmir state, out of which two were sanctioned for Leh district. Road projects of more than Rs 77 crores are underway in the district to connect the inaccessible villages and rebuild the existing roads.

With the implementation of the Central Road fund Project, which is being implemented for the first time, people are excited about having road connectivity in the coming months.

Out of 360 revenue villages and hamlets, only two revenue villages and 10 hamlets remain unconnected by a pucca road. These villages are situated in remote areas with tough mountain terrain.

This road network will help the development agenda of the NDA government besides facilitating mobility for locals as well as tourists. It will also give a fillip to enthusiastic tourists to explore pristine Ladakh and boost tourism.
