Guwahati : Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates seventh annual conference of South Asian Association for Study of the Liver.Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the seventh annual conference of South Asian Association for Study of the Liver (SAASL) in Guwahati on Friday. Sonowal, who attended the conference as the chief guest, said that the participants of the conference will get a platform to enrich their knowledge in the medical field which will lead to the development of hepatology in the north-eastern region.He also said that competition is going on in all sectors in the modern world. Sonowal further added that the Act East Policy has opened up avenues of development for the north-eastern region. The chief minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed on improving ties among the ASEAN and BBN nations which is also being followed by the state government in order to transform Guwahati into a gateway for Southeast Asian countries. Sonowal also added that organic farming products of the north-eastern region have been a huge success in international markets. He also urged the youths of the state to capture the South East Asian market with their innovations and hard work so that the state embarks as one of the successful places among the Southeast Asian countries. The chief minister also stated that Modi has lead to the development of the country within a short period of time. The conference was attended by many eminent doctors like Bhabadev Goswami, SP Singh among a host of other dignitaries. SAASL was formed in Dhaka on October 6, 2012 with an aim to foster greater cooperation amongst the hepatologists, and translate the advances in hepatology into greater benefits for the practitioners of the field as well as the citizens of South Asian countries
