Kokrajhar: The All Bodo Students Union has urged the government of Assam to raise the Bodo Medium Education in the state, or else the students from vernacular Bodo Medium will still remain far from the Top Ten list in the state.

The student union has expressed serious concern over the low pass percentage of Bodo medium students in the HSLC examination, the result of which was declared on May 15 last.

Briefing media persons at a press meet at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar today, ABSU Education Secretary Kastom Basumatary said this year only 1266 students could secure first division compared to 1606 in 2018 and 1370 in 2017. Moreover no students from the Bodo Medium schools could secure a place in the top ten lists.

The ABSU leader said that Bodo Medium education system in Assam is riddled with many problems which are significant towards lower pass percentage in the state. “Some of the utter neglect by the Government of Assam to the Bodo Medium Education are the reasons which have brought set back to rise from the elementary to secondary stage of education, he said.

He stated that the key problems which are not yet responded positively and timely by the government of Assam are – the Assam Government has not set up the Separate Directorate for Bodo Medium Education in the state, which is a long pending demand made by the All Bodo Students Union.

“There is lack of teachers in many Bodo Medium Schools, which are least paid attention by government of Assam to fill up the vacancies, non-provincialisation of the Bodo medium high schools, lack of supply of Bodo Medium Textbooks, which remained shortage till the end of the academic year from Elementary to Secondary Education are some of the major issues faced by the Bodo medium students, beside irresponsive towards conduct of separate TET for Bodo medium candidates by the Govt. of Assam.

Basumatary said many Bodo medium schools are yet to be provincialized. He also said that there is less number of Teacher Education College and Training centers for Bodo Medium Teacher aspirants, such as DIET centers which are demanded to be set up in all the districts for the Bodo Medium teachers by the All Bodo Students Union.

Extending congratulations to all the Toppers (Top Ten) and successful candidates in SEBA conduct HSLC Results 2019, the student leader said the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) will conferred the 14th Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasat award, 2019, to the top ten students securing highest marks in the HSLC examination from among the Bodo medium at a ceremonial function to be held at Bodofa Fwthwr Bhergaon in Udalguri district on May 22 next.
