Mangaldai  : Much to the relief of the pedestrians and common customers of Mangaldai town who often used to suffer traffic congestion and hazy, noisy atmosphere due to some unauthorized commercial establishments ,  Darrang District Administration in a bold and courageous step  on Wednesday stopped  the trading at the  retail outlet of M/s-‘Bazar India’ located at LNB road of the Town and also sealed the multi-storey  premises for an indefinite period. The corporate business house run by Mayasil Retail India Ltd in the campus owned by one Panchanan Sharma has been charged for gross violation of  official norms under Assam Municipal Act, Disaster Management Safety norms including lack of parking places , trade license , necessary power supply etc which was evident  in the report submitted by a joint technical inspection team comprising Municipal authority, Disaster Management Authority and PWD Electrical Department. The Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Executive Officer of Mangaldai Municipal Board Pankaj Chakravarty in his closure notice to the business group has clearly mentioned such matters of gross violation of various provisions of the relevant Acts and also about their failure in giving satisfactory reply to the show cause notice already served even after the extended time period. Earlier on September 27 last the management of the business establishment had started its  functioning without fulfilling the above mentioned requisite norms inviting show cause notice from the Municipal authority on that very date. Dipsikha Saikia, Circle Officer Mangaldai on behalf of the district administration at around 3 pm sealed the mega business centre  in presence of Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Niranjan Baruah and authorised officials of Mangaldai Municipal Board including its Assistant Executive Engineer Amulya Saharia among others. This is the first incident in the recent history of Mangaldai Municipal Board when an unauthorized commercial centre has been placed under lock and key . In another incident on the day the administration vacated the ‘varanda’   in front of Matri-Bastralaya , a leading clothes house of the Mangaldai bazar from their unauthorized occupation for several years causing serious harassment to the commuters . The Municipal people in presence of Magistrate also seized a huge quantity of clothes and  wooden furniture which have been placed in the front varanda illegally . The lawful action of the administration has widely been welcome by common people of the town even a large section of bonafide traders . Meanwhile in his reaction Deputy Commissioner , Darrang Ashok Kr Barman congratulated the entire team in the operation indicating more stringent actions against unauthorized practices . However he promised his full support to genuine traders . ” We are always ready to support genuine traders but anything illegal will not be tolerated .”, he included.
