  • Adya shraddha of tribal leader and former MP Charan Narzary held

    Kokrajhar: The Adya shraddha of prominent tribal leader and former MP Charan Narzary was be held at his native village Mwiderkhoro Hatimatha in Kokrajhar today.  Narzary breathed his last on July 23 last due to age ailments at a private hospital in Guwahati .

    The chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary, Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Toren Boro, ex-president of All Assam Tribal Sangha Ranjit Kumar Borgoyary, All Bodo Students Union president Pramod Boro, president of Bodo Women Justice Forum Anjali Daimary, eminent sculptor Janak Jhankar Narzary and others attended the programme.

    As part of the programme, floral tribute was held. A memorial lecture on Charan Narzary was also held on the occasion of adha shraddha. A memorial magazine was also brought out on the occasion.

    A well known writer, orator, Narzary was the founder General Secretary of Plains Tribals Council of Assam (PTCA), and become a  Member of Legislative Assembly election in 1972 before becoming Member of Parliament in 1977. He was a Prof of Kokrajhar college before joining politics. He also wrote the lyrics of evergreen Bodo song “Golab Bibari Nwng Geolang Barfunai Bibar Gaodang” sung beautifully by Khaniram Brahma in All India Radio, Guwahati which is still a favorite among music listeners. His poem “Anaru tu sigang” is an inspiration to young generation.
