  • Army stages flag march in Darjeeling witnessing protests by GJM

    In West Bengal, army staged flagmarch in different parts of Darjeeling district this morning following Gorkha Jan-Mukti Morcha, GJM, protest started on DarjeelingThursday over imposition of Begali language in schools. The state government has said, free bus service facility to the stranded passengers will continue today.

    Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee yesterday warns of strict action against those creating unrest in Darjeeling following GJM, indefinite strike called from tomorrow. GJM is demanding for a separate Gorkhaland state. She said, her government will not tolerate if anyone create unrest in the state. She came down heavily on GJM for calling the Bandh at a time when tourism is at its peak in the hills. To maintain law and order the GJM headquarters at North Point Singamari in Darjeeling has been cordoned off.

    GJM president Bimal Gurung, yesterday told media that the strike mainly aimed at to cripple the government establishments, both the state and central governments. He said the judiciary and commercial banks will come under the purview of the bandh. Gurung said, educational institutions, hotels, shops and establishments and transport will be exempted from purview of bandh.

    In another developmemt, a special audit team from Nabanna, state secretariat reached Darjeeling to review the financial activities of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, GTA. The team will look into the allegations of corruption against the Administration.
