Guwahati : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that college teachers will have to play proactive role in the development of human resources of the state and catalyse the State government’s bid in transforming Assam into one of the most developed states of the country. Addressing the teachers at the 65 th Annual Conference of Assam College Teachers’ Association at B. Borooah College on Sunday, Chief Minister Sonowal said that college teachers are at important crossroads of giving shape and dimension to the innumerable students who come to them after finishing the school education. He said that Assam has lot of potentials and the state is full of natural resources and the need of the hour is the competent human resources who can help in putting the state is the robust growth momentum. Chief Minister Sonowal asked the teachers to take responsibility to develop the human resources and prove the superiority of the state in the intellectual world. Referring to the saturation of advanced science and technology, Sonowal said, “We are working for smart students, smart colleges and smart cities and in this back drop the teachers need to be smart to make our human resources the best and consequently our state as the top performing state”.

He also called upon the students to work hard because being laborious is the only way through which they can taste success in life. Chief Minister Sonowal also said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Assam and North East has found new impetus in their journey towards development. It is because of the Act east Policy enunciated by the Prime Minister; Guwahati has found never before importance as the hub of trade and commerce. He also said that in the wake of Act East Policy, Guwahati has been pitched in as the gateway to 10 South East Asian countries and three BBN countries. Considering the ever-increasing importance of the city, State government has decided to extend the periphery of the city by notifying State Capital Region by including the neighbouring areas of the state. He also said that the Prime Minister has identified the inherent qualities of the North East and therefore, termed the region as ‘Asta Laxmi’. In this positive atmosphere, the teachers as well as the students need to take proactive role in maintaining the growth momentum of the region. Reiterating State government’s commitment to the development of education sector of the state, Sonowal said that to bring about fundamental changes his government has introduced ‘Gunotsav’.

Moreover, for the infrastructural development of educational institutions in the state, his government has made several interventions and the outcome is visible before everybody. Chief Minister Sonowal also asked Assam College Teachers’ Association to seek land from the government for building an auditorium in Guwahati which should be used for all the constructive purposes for the development of teachers and taught. Organised by Assam College Teachers’ Association Kamrup Metro Zone in association with B. Borooah College the four-day annual conference which started on 27 June witnessed presence of around 10 thousand teachers from all across the state. President of Assam College Teachers’ Association Biswajit Bhuyan, its General Secretary Himangshu Maral, Principal, B. Borooah College Satyendra Nath Barman also spoke on the occasion. Adviser, Education, Government of Assam Prof. Mihir Kanti Chowdhury along with a host of academicians were present on the occasion.
