    Guwahati : Eminent educationalist, linguist, author and administrator Tabu Ram Taid passed away on Saturday morning at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was suffering from age-related health ailments.Tabu Taid was born on August 1, 1942, in North Lakhimpur district of Assam. Beginning his career as a school teacher, Taid joined Cotton College as a lecturer in the Department of English.After 14 years of service in Cotton College, Taid joined as an educational administrator in 1981 and was posted as a deputy director of Public Instruction. He also served as the director of SCERT, Secondary Education, Higher Education and was also the Chairman of Board of Secondary Education (SEBA). Taid also served as the chairman of State Selection Board (SSB) (higher education) under the Education Department of the Government of Assam. He also served as the first Director of Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture. He retired from Assam government service in 2000, however, he continued as the SSB chairman till February 2004. The last rites of Taid would be performed in Gogamukh and Mishing Autonomous Council has selected the land for performing the last rites. Last rites of Tabu Taid would be performed with full state honours. Mortal remains of Taid would be flown to Lakhimpur by helicopter and the Assam government is in talks with Pawan Hans.
