  • Assam government completes 2 years: Himanta Biswa Sarma launched Ayushman Assam Scheme in Guwahati

    Guwahati: The BJP-led Assam government has completed two years in office today. To provide affordable medical aid to the public, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched the Ayushman Assam Scheme in Guwahati on May 10. Speaking on the occasion, the Assam Chief Minister said that about 84% of the state’s population who have ration cards will now get cashless treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh in the best private and government hospitals in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the scheme on April 14, while health officials said e-KYC verification has been completed for over 1.1 crore people to avail its benefits. The overall target is to cover 2.02 crore people of the state under the health insurance policy. About 27 lakh families will benefit from this scheme, under which 5 lakh cashless treatment will be sent to people with ration cards. The scheme will be available in more than 300 hospitals in Assam and around 2000-3000 hospitals across India.

    Cm Sarma also said that the state government has decided to open BSc nursing in all state medical colleges of Assam with an aim to produce nurses with soft skill training including knowledge of foreign languages and digital literacy. Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that three more cancer hospitals will be opened in the state this year and seven more hospitals will be in the pipeline. Every family having a ration card will be covered under Ayushman Bharat and will receive free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh per year. From today, 1.10 crore families will get Ayushman Bharat cards at their homes.
