Guwahati : Better late than never as Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)’s coordinator Harish Rawat has finally spoken about the Dhola firing incident and condemned it. Speaking at a press meet, Rawat said, “On behalf of Rahul Gandhi I condemn the incident.” Alleging that it was BJP’s policy to divide and rule that has led to the incident, the coordinator said that the Sonowal led government did not take action in time, adding that we had already warned of the negative consequences. Due to the government’s negligence, it has been unsuccessful in capturing the accused, claimed Rawat. Paying a hefty sum as compensation is not enough, he added. All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat Saturday criticised BJP-led government in Assam under the leadership of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal for its total failure to protect the life and property of the people of the state. “Sonowal is playing a dive and rule policy by polarising the society,” Rawat told reporters here in the sidelines of a condolence meeting organised by Hojai District Congress Committee (HDCC) to condole the death of five person at Kherbari near Dhola in Tinsukia district at Juraphukuri . “There is security lapse. There was total negligence on the part of the state government even after prior input by intelligence agencies,” Rawat said. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said the Congress has demanded a judicial imnquiry into the causes and circumstances leading to the killing of five persons. Without taking the names of any person, Bora said,” the continuous provocating statements made by a section of leaders has led to such an incident. “The government’s involvement in this mayhem cannot be denied as the government has not taken any step against the political leaders who were propagating hatred through their provocative comments in media and is backing up the perpetrators,” Bora said.
