  • Assam HAM Radio Operators and HAM Enthusiasts to be joined fight against COVID-19 during Countrywide Lockdown.

    Haflong : In the wake of the outbreak of Corona Virus, a group of HAM Radio operators and HAM Enthusiasts in the state trying their best to fill the void in the flow of information and helping District Administration and Police in tracking down mass gathering and sending vagabonds to the shelters during the nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, said Shri Taheruddin Ahmed, Chief adviser and Founder of Central Amateur Radio Activity Centre (CARAC), Guwahati on Saturday during a bilingual Talk was delivered in the Theme on “Use of Amateur Radio and It’s Contribution to Society.

     

    The talk was delivered through the alternative Radio “HAMSPHERE Virtual Networks” in the occasion of celebrating the 95th World Amateur Radio Day, 2020 organized by the Central Amateur Radio Activity Center (CARAC), Guwahati. Shri Ahmed also highlighted the activities done by the nationwide Amateur Radio Club of Indian Institute of HAMs (IIH)- Bangalore, West Bengal Amateur Radio Club (WBRC), Amateur Radio Society of India (ARSI)- New Delhi, National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR)- Hyderabad, HAM Radio Club-Pune, Tripura HAM Radio Club etc. helped the District Administration, Police and Health Offices to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of essential services, especially in health care, help police in tracking and complains related to civic issues and address concerned over the virus diseases.

     

    The Community Radios and Internet Radios also serving people during the country wide Lockdown and creating awareness against the deadly virus. He also expressed that as requested by the West Bengal HAM Radio Club and Tripura HAM Radio Club, the Guwahati based Central Amateur Radio Activity Centre trace out the 18 nos. of workers from West Bengal and 2 nos. of Scout and Guides person from Tripura those sheltered at Guwahati helping them and informed the District Administration through the local Police Station accordingly. Ashim Ranjan Gogoi, President and Nayan Das, General Secretary along with other members Dr. Ankur Baruah, Bimal Goswami and Chandan Kalita of CARAC, Guwahati arranged the said auspicious event through the  HAMSPHERE Virtual Networks on Frequency 01.899.00 MHz in Band-1 worldwide. Amateur Radio Operator Prithwraj Purkayastha, VU3TQD from Jorhat and Anup Biswas, VU3GWI from Haflong and more than 50 Shortwave listeners, ham radio enthusiasts from different districts of Assam attended the Talk and agreed to setup a statewide network of Radio communication through Amateur radio also recognised as the second line of communication at the time of disaster.
