  • Assam: Task of updating NRC of 1951 successfully done by over 60 thousand employees

    In Assam, the daunting task of updating the National Register of Citizens of 1951 was successfully done by over 60 thousand employees. Senior IAS officer Prateek Hajela who was given the responsibility to the NRC led the team as the state NRC Coordinator.  The complete NRC draft was published yesterday.

    Our correspondent reports that Six years of planning and proper executions were required to the NRC.  Technology played the key role in digitisation of the old records up to 1971 including the NRC of 1951.

    Over 2 crores legacy data codes were generated . The digitization idea was conceptualized by Mr. Hajela and executed by a private group. Dedication of  over 60 thousand employees’ made the updation process successful.

    Proper care was giving in Information , Education and Communication , IEC campaign. The NRC updation process has also re-united a lot of families in Assam during the course of verification process
