At least 11 persons were killed and 5 injured in a blast in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened in Chauri area when the building of a carpet factory collapsed after a powerful explosion.

The blast was so powerful that parts of the building were thrown away and persons passing through the adjacent Bhadohi-Varanasi road also got injured.

It was a Carpet Factory where labourers from different states were working and most of the diseased are from Malda district of West Bengal.

SP Bhadohi Rajesh Yash told AIR that prima facie it looks that large quantity of crackers was stored illegally in the factory, although reasons behind the blast are yet to be ascertained.

Forensic teams and Bomb disposal squad have been called for an investigation of the blast.
