Kerala Government has decided to release former Minister R Balakrishna Pillai and 137 other convicts from different jails as part of the state formation on Tuesday. The recent proposal of jail authorities to release these convicts has been approved by the state Governor. Convicted for one year in Idamalayar case by the Supreme Court, R Balakrishna Pillai is in Poojappura Central jail now. The decision of the UDF government to release him has already created sharp responses from the LDF. Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has termed the decision as violation of rule of law.
