    GUWAHATI : Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to the North Eastern States from today. In Meghalaya, a meeting with eight Chief Ministers of north-east will be held at 6 pm in shillong. A Home Ministry official said, the meeting will discuss inter-state border disputes, drugs, terrorism, cow smuggling. Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at Shillong airport at 3 pm today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Shillong on Saturday to resolve border issues and other important discussions related to north eastern states.

    The Home Minister is on a two-day visit where he will attend a number of events. In the same episode, he inaugurated the interstate bus terminal at Maviong in East Khasi Hills on Saturday. He was accompanied by CM Konrad Sangma and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. Meanwhile, the Home Minister said that ‘the work that is being done today should have been done many years ago’. “It will improve the road connectivity of the North East and make the region an economic hub. “It begins when India is going to celebrate the 75th year of its independence and Meghalaya will celebrate the 50th year of its establishment,” he added. Union Home Minister Amit Shah further said that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the highest importance to connectivity in the North East after the BJP government was formed in 2014.

    “We are trying to connect the capital of every state in the North East with rail and airport before 2024,” he said. At the same time, road connectivity also needs to be emphasized. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a meeting with all chief ministers of north eastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim at 6 pm on Saturday, July 24 to address the ongoing issues. The meeting with chief ministers, chief secretaries and police chiefs of north eastern states will be held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong. Earlier, it was reported that the issue of illegal drug trade in the North East would be at the top of the agenda during union home minister Amit Shah’s visit to Meghalaya.

    The meeting between Amit Shah and chief ministers of north eastern states will discuss a number of issues related to the region. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said, “Home Minister Amit Shah will discuss with chief ministers a number of issues including illegal drug trade, border dispute between north eastern states.The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biawa Sarma has attended the Special Meeting of the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) Society . Which chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah at NESAC Head Quater at Umiam, Shillong in Meghalaya today. During the meeting, issues related to use of space technology for flood control, wetland management, preservation of forest cover in the region etc were discussed. The Chief Minister proposed to take up a pilot project for flood control involving Central Water Commission under Jal Shakti Ministry . The Chief Minister also suggested for monitoring of forests at inter-state border by using space technology.
