  • Both houses of Parliament to resume business after five day break

    Published on December 27, 2018

Both the Houses of Parliament will resume today after a weekend and Christmas holiday break. Lok Sabha will take up the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill for consideration and passing.

The Bill proposes all declarations of instant triple talaq void and illegal. It seeks to make the practice a punishable offence with imprisonment of up to three years. The Bill will replace the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance-2018. The National Medical Council (Amendment) Bill 2018 has also been listed among others for today’s legislative business.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill 2018, and The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and others have been listed for consideration and passing.

The Winter session of Parliament, which began on 11th of this month, has so far witnessed repeated disruptions on the issues of Rafale aircraft deal, construction of dam across Cauvery river, and financial benefits to Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress has been consistently demanding JPC probe in the aircraft deal while AIADMK and DMK were protesting construction of the dam. TDP members were in the well seeking special package for Andhra Pradesh. The Rajya Sabha had also witnessed uproar last Friday over government’s order authorising intelligence agencies to intercept information stored on computers.

Last week, ruling BJP members had also raised slogans in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seeking apology from Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his allegations against the government on Rafale deal.
