  • Buddhadeb asks Front workers to resist Maoists

    Published on October 2, 2010

WBengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya urged Left Front activists to put up a strong resistance against Maoists, even as opposition Trinamool alleged that armed CPI(M) cadres were capturing areas in West Midnapore district.

“The situation is changing. People are resisting. We have to resist Maoists who are indiscriminately killing poor and innocent people almost daily and leaving bodies on the roads,” Bhattacharya told a Front rally in Midnapore in West Midnapore district on Saturday.
“They (Maoists) are seeking an opportunity to capture power by pursuing the politics of murder and violence, but we will not allow it to happen,” he said.

“We have to work out plans in the Left Front to unitedly resist Maoists and rid Junglemahal of these elements who are out to create unrest with the help of Trinamool Congress,” Bhattacharya said.
Alleging that Trinamool Congress was hand in glove with Maoists, he claimed that the opposition party was protecting the banned outfit which had killed over 200 people, mostly poor farmers, in the last one year.
Stating that Trinamool Congress was out to embarrass the Left Front government by creating unrest, the chief minister made an oblique reference to Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s “unprincipled politics and her tacit support to Maoists”.

“She is used to lying every day and her organisation is based on lies. She has made it a daily schedule to shout that a conspiracy has been hatched to kill her. It is based on lies. It is amazing that a party is surviving on the politics of lies,” Bhattacharya alleged.

Stating that the main aim was to drive Maoists beyond the borders of Orissa and Jharkhand, the chief minister said police had been told to deal firmly with the ultras.

At the same time, police and administration were also directed to ensure that innocent persons were not arrested. About Jindal’s steel plant coming up in Maoist- infested Salboni, Bhattacharya said the outer boundary wall would be erected by December. On completion, it would be the country’s largest integrated steel plant employing 6,000 people, he said.
