Guwahati: China is not shying away from its actions against India. Beijing has released the third list of names in the letters “Chinese, Tibetan and Pinyin” for the Indian state with an aim to re-assert its claim over Arunachal Pradesh. China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs has released standardised names for 11 places for Arunachal Pradesh, which it describes as ‘Zhangnan, the southern part of Tibet’, as per rules on geographical names issued by the State Council, China’s Cabinet. The Chinese state-run Global Times reported that the ministry released the official names of 11 places.

They also have precise coordinates including two land areas, two residential areas, five mountain peaks and two rivers. In addition, the names of places and the category of administrative districts subordinate to them are listed. This is the third list of standardised geographical names released by the Chinese Ministry for Arunachal Pradesh. The first list of standardized names for six places in Arunachal was released in 2017. After this, the second list of 15 places was released in 2021. After China’s announcement, the Congress claimed that this has been possible due to the wrong policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Congress on April 4 strongly opposed China’s renaming of several areas in Arunachal Pradesh, claiming it was a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “clean chit” to the neighbouring country and his “eloquent silence” on Chinese border movements. According to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the country is still dealing with the repercussions of dealing with Modi’s clean chit to China. This is the third time China has decided to rename our territories in Arunachal Pradesh. April 21, 2017 – 6 locations, December 30, 2021 – 15 locations, and April 3, 2023 – 11 locations. Arunachal Pradesh is and will remain an integral part of India. Kharge said that after Galwan, the country is facing the consequences of Modiji giving a clean chit to China. [5:46 pm, 4/4/2023] Bhupen Goswami: Meanwhile, the Indian government has bluntly rejected China’s decision to change the names of various places in Arunachal Pradesh, claiming that the state is an important part of India and giving “invented” names does not change this fact. India reacted in response to Beijing’s announcement of Chinese names for 11 more places in Arunachal Pradesh, which the neighbouring country claims as southern Tibet.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India strongly rejected China’s decision to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. The development comes after China released a set of names in Chinese, Tibetan and Pinyin characters as part of its efforts to claim Arunachal Pradesh. We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject it outright. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi gave this information. Arunachal Pradesh is, has been and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.
