Guwahati : Demanding immediate withdrawal of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is going to rope in more regional parties outside the Northeast region to add more teeth to the protests. A team of the AGP, led by its president and state agriculture minister in Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government in Assam, Atul Bora is going to meet Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. Bora is likely to meet Thackeray on Saturday and request the Shiv Sena to oppose the Bill in the Parliament. Bora will be accompanied by the AGP leaders and state government ministers Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury. It may be mentioned that the AGP has been agitating and mobilizing support against the “anti-national Bill” at various levels in Assam and also outside it. The party recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Rajnath Singh and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to oppose the Bill. The party is also carrying out a signature campaign against the Bill.
