Guwahati :Senior Congress leader and Jania’s MLA Abdul Khaleque has claimed that it is possible to form an alternative government in Assam if all the legislators supporting the Assam Accord come forward and join hands.
Khaleque claimed that if the AGP agrees for the formation of the alternative government, then it will be the AGP who will select the new Chief Minister. Speaking to the media on the issue, Abdul Khaleque said, “If at present Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal quits BJP and comes forward in support of the Assam Accord then we assure to support him by all means.” He added that it is very much possible to form an alternative government if all the legislators supporting the Accord join hands. He stated that there are a more than a dozen of legislators in Assembly who were once leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union. He stated that it is up to the AGP what they choose now and if they choose the alternative government, then they will be the one who will choose the next Chief Minister. Khaleque also clarified that the Congress will not support AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal as CM alleging that Ajmal’s actions only helped the BJP over time. Khaleque also claimed that as Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is not in the support of the Assam Accord, the alternative government can be formed without him being a part of it.
