    Published on July 30, 2019

Dengue cases have been reported from 50 districts outside Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Bangladesh. On Monday nearly 1100 new dengue cases were reported in the country taking the total number of people infected with dengue this year above 13,600 which is the highest since 2000 when Dengue was first detected in Bangladesh. Official sources confirm 8 deaths due to dengue so far but the figure is likely to be much higher going by the reports coming from various parts of the country.

Government has fixed a ceiling of Tk500 for dengue tests by the private hospitals and diagnostic centres. Government hospitals are doing the dengue test free of cost since Monday. High Court in its order yesterday asked the government to monitor the fee being charged by private hospitals for dengue test.

Bangladesh is in the grip of worst ever dengue outbreak in its history. Hospitals are over flowing with dengue patients and doctors have been working overtime to cope with the rush of new patients.
